If you need to send money to a friend or receive a payment from clients, you might find peer-to-peer money transfer services quite convenient.

Cash App and Venmo are two of the most popular P2P payment platforms today. If you’re using one of them, you might be wondering if you can transfer money from one platform to another.

Can you send money from Cash App to Venmo? The short answer is yes, you can now send money from your Cash App to your Venmo account directly and for free.

However, note that you can only do the transfer between your own accounts. You can’t send money from your Cash App to a third party’s Venmo.

In this post, we outline the step-by-step ways of sending money from Cash App to Venmo.

The last thing you’d want is to waste time figuring things out on your own. So, read until the end, and don’t skip any part of the process!

How to send money from Cash App to Venmo

You can send money from Cash App to Venmo in different ways:

  • Using Cash App as a bank on Venmo
  • Using a Venmo Debit Card linked to your Cash App
  • Using a Cash App Card linked to your Venmo

Again, this only works if you have accounts on both platforms and want to transfer between them. If you’re sending money to a third party, say from your Cash App to a friend’s Venmo, it’s not yet possible.

Send money by linking your Cash App account to Venmo without a card

You can now send money directly from your Cash App to your Venmo account even when you don’t have a cash card.

First, you need to add Cash App as a bank account on Venmo. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Open your Venmo app and go to the Me tab by tapping the icon with your photo or initials.

2. Click the Settings icon in the upper right corner.

3. Select Payment Methods and click “Add a bank or card,” then choose Bank.

4. Click “Verify bank manually instead.”

5. You need to add the Routing Number and Account Number of your Cash App. So go to your Cash App.

6. Click on your Cash App balance at the bottom left corner.

7. Click Direct Deposit.

8. Scroll down, and you’ll see your routing and account numbers there.

9. Copy the details and go back to your Venmo app.

10. Paste the details and hit “Save and continue.”

As part of the verification process, you’ll see two deposits and two withdrawals on your Cash App over the next three days amounting to $1 or less each.

When you see them on your Cash App transaction history as “Venmo Acctverify,” open your Venmo app and verify your account. Take note of the amounts because you need them later.

1. Go to Settings, then Payment Methods.

2. You’ll see Cash App listed as Sutton Bank with an “Unverified” note below it. Tap the Sutton Bank and then click Verify.

3. Enter the amounts withdrawn from your Cash App (the ones labeled as Venmo Acctverify).

4. When done, you’ll see the “Unverified” label gone. This means your account is verified, and you can instantly transfer money from Cash App to Venmo.

Here’s how you can transfer cash instantly from Cash App to Venmo:

1. Go to the main screen of Venmo, click Manage Balance.

2. Click Add Money. Choose Instant, which is free if you’re sending $500 or below. If you’re sending larger amounts, choose Standard, which takes three to five days.

3. Enter the amount you want to transfer and hit Next.

4. Select Sutton Bank and click “Add [amount] Now.”

You’ll see a pop-up message on your screen saying that the money has been added.

Send money by linking your Venmo Debit Card to Cash App

Do you have a Venmo debit card? You can link it to your Cash App to transfer money.

If you don’t have a Venmo debit card yet, don’t worry. It’s easy to request one, and here’s what you need to do:

1. Open your Venmo app and go to Settings.

2. In the Buying section, select Venmo Card.

3. Select Get The Venmo Card.

4. Pick a color that you want.

5. Enter your full legal name (i.e., the same as what’s on your driver’s license). Then hit the Next button.

6. You also need to input the last four digits of your Social Security number and your birth date. This is part of the security check to ensure that you’re who you claim to be.

7. Tick the box that says, “I have read and agree to the Venmo Mastercard Cardholder Agreement and The Bancorp Bank’s Privacy Policy.” Then, tap Next.

8. Fill out the Address and tap Next.

9. Review all the information that you entered, then hit Submit.

10. The system will verify your identity; then, you’ll see the message on the screen that your Venmo card is in the works.

Your Venmo debit card will be delivered to your address within 10 business days.

Once you receive your Venmo card, you can link it to your Cash App. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Open your Cash App.

2. Click on your balance at the bottom-left corner of the home screen.

3. Hit Add Bank.

4. Enter the 16-digit Venmo card number found on the back of your card.

6. Tap Done to exit.

The standard transfer is free, but you’ll have to wait one to three business days to receive your money. Instant transfer only takes a few seconds, but it comes with a fee of 0.5% to 1.75% of the amount you send or $0.25, whichever is higher.

Send money by linking your Cash App card to Venmo

If you prefer a Cash App card instead of a Venmo debit card, you can do the setup the other way around. This time, you’ll link your Cash App card to your Venmo.

But first, you need to request a Cash App debit card, if you don’t have one yet.

Here’s the process:

  1. Open your Cash App and tap the card icon at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Choose a color that you want—black, white, or glow-in-the-dark. Black and white are free, while glow-in-the-dark has a $5 charge.
  3. Sign the front of the card to personalize it.
  4. Input your address, confirm your first and last name, enter your date of birth and hit Next.
  5. The next screen will show you the details about your card, such as the transaction fees. Scroll down to the bottom and hit Continue.
  6. Wait for the order confirmation message to appear on the screen and click Done.

Your cash card order is confirmed, and you’ll receive it within five to seven business days.

Now, here’s how you can link your Cash App cash card to Venmo:

1. Open your Venmo app and go to the Me tab by tapping the icon with your photo or initials.

2. Tap the gear icon for Settings and then choose Payment Methods.

3. Tap Add bank or card, then choose Card.

4. Enter your 16-digit card number or scan the card by clicking the camera icon.

5. Enter the expiration date, security code, and your ZIP code. Hit Add.

You can now add money on Venmo using the linked Cash App card.

Wrapping Up

You can now transfer money between your Cash App and Venmo accounts directly by adding your Cash App as a verified account on Venmo. And the good news is that it’s free.

Alternatively, you can also send money by linking a Venmo debit card to your Cash App account or your Cash App debit card to your Venmo app. Just beware of the fees when you choose Instant transfer vs. standard.
